MyMac.com: Macintosh reviews and editorials

  • BusyCal - Review BusyCal is the OS X appointment calendar that iCal should be. It is smart, attractive and configurable in ways that iCal is not. Unlike iCal, however, it is not free.
  • Hipstamatic for iPhone - Review Digital photography never looked so analog!
  • MyMac Podcast 284 - A New Hope Listen to the show here, and subscribe in iTunesGuy, Owen Rubin, and Mark Rudd ring in the new format (kinda our old format really) MyMac.com Podcast! We finish up (really, we promise this time) with some observations about the Macworld Expo, a discussion about what Apple could do with 25 to 40 billion freaking dollars, and ask the question, Is iTunes getting a little creaky?
  • Kensington's Sound Amplified iPhone Cradle - Review Kensington's latest iPhone accessory may be just the thing for those of us with long commutes to work each day.
  • Build a Better Photograph - Book Review Michael E. Stern is a photographer. He's also a scientist, business man, and an educator. In this very informative and anecdotal book, Build a Better Photograph, he walks us through what it means to be a professional photographer in the fields of Environmental Portraiture, Product Photography, 3D Scanning, and Compositing Techniques. His personal stories of how he secured certain jobs keeps us on the edge of our seats. As he relates some of his experiences working with clients in the corporate world he discloses some of the pitfalls that photographers can run into when faced with tough assignments and less than cooperative people.
  • EcoRunner and SportShell Convertible for iPod Nano 5G - Review I've been lucky enough to give the SportShell Convertible for iPod Nano 5G and the Marware EcoRunner a really good workout.
  • ArtRage 3 - Review In November of 2005 I first wrote about ArtRage. Since that time I have reviewed ArtRage 2 and ArtRage Deluxe for MyMac and each new version has made ArtRage better and better. It has also become a standard in my art classroom on my iMacs and my students love it. Well, I am thrilled to be writing a review of the newly released ArtRage 3. Just like previous updates, it keeps on improving.

  • GR8 In-Ear Headphones - Review I spent the last four afternoons outside in the late-winter sun of southern Arizona, evaluating GR8 while listening to dozens of free Amazon download tracks in a wide array of musical styles. The sound is immersive, placing my hearing senses fully and exclusively within the headphones' immediate performance space.
  • Transfer LP records to your computer A friend recently gave me some LP records, some of which were still sealed in shrink wrap. Since they were in excellent condition, I decided to transfer them to my computer using my USB turntable and Audio Hijack Pro, an excellent $32 program from Rogue Amoeba
  • Pixelmator - Review Back in October of 2007 I reviewed Pixelmator. Pixelmator is a Photoshop style program for a lot less money. Back then I gave it a 4 out of 5 (which today would be an 8 out of 10). I found some issues but still really liked the program. Now, it is up to version 1.5.1 and I had a chance to test out the new version. Has it improved? Is it still a great program? Read on!

  • Westone 2 True-Fit Earphones - Review Every genre of music performs beautifully.
  • The Little Digital Video Book - Review When it comes to getting a digital video camera, you typically come about it in one of two ways. Either someone gave it to you as a gift, or you just bought it because your old one just broke. But in both cases, you probably obtained it just a few short days before you actually need to use it. Sadly, these cameras are a bit more complex than you typically expect, and you are not going to have those 3 to 4 weeks you need to figure out how it works. So what do you do?

  • iPhone 3GS Portable Genius - Book Review Most iPhone users take it for granted that they know how to use most of their phone's features. An iPhone is a thing of beauty, a device so well designed that most of us can figure out how to utilize its basic functions in short order. Apple surely realizes this - the iPhone ships with a manual, doesn't it?

  • Lowepro Pro Runner 200 AW - Review When I first received the 200 AW, my immediate response was to the attractive combination of black and green colored materials used by Lowepro.
