After researching what the user and business requires, we can make the Strategy tier of Jesse James Garrets Elements of User Experience3which underpins everything we do during the project. Do this well, and you really shouldnt come up with something thats fundamentally wrong. Agile doesnt account for this beyond a planning phase (i.e. iteration zero), which may well define a strategy of sorts. But does it really define the correct strategy? Surely, thats created through careful consideration of three things ...

One of the most interesting problems (to me at least) in browser layout engines is how to implement a style system that can determine the style information for elements on a page efficiently. I worked on this extensively in the Gecko layout engine during my time at AOL and I've also done a lot of work on it for WebCore at Apple. My ideal implementation would actually be a hybrid of the two systems, since some of the optimizations I've done exist only in one engine or the other. ...

For many months now, I have been captivated by the mystery and lore of the soon to be released Nintendo Wii -- Nintendo's latest gaming system, which is to be launched this Sunday, November 19th. As should be obvious by my involvement with this site, I am also a long time Mac fanatic, having founded a Mac User Group when I was in colleage and otherwise having been a believer in the Jobsian fantasy since the early 1990s. Other than my recent fascination with the Nintendo Wii, I have not ever been an avid video game player, other than a rather common fascination with arcade systems and some of the earlier Nintendo iterations when I was of the "typical" gaming age (i.e., 12 to 17 or so). So I recently wondered why it is I am craving a Nintendo Wii like I have only before craved the latest hot product from Apple. In this article I attempt to analyze this question and explore whether there is a nexus between Mac users and Wii fanatics that might be larger than anyone might think. ...

It has been exciting and at times challenging one and a half years for us to develop our new mobile Web browser for the S60 software platform based on Apples and KDEs fantastic Safari and Konqueror browser code. I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the KDE community, WebKit community and the Apple Safari team for having built what is today WebCore and JavaScriptCore, a large part of your code is today already running in our Nokia mobile phones. We at Nokia are looking forward to working together with many of you from the community and partner companies in the near future to further develop the S60 WebKit. ...

During the introduction of the iPad on January 27, the keyboard dock was the accessory that got some major attention from Apple-watchers. After all, it's the "cheapest" and simplest way to do text entry on the iPad without typing on the touchscreen itself. However, the delay doesn't mean WiFi iPad owners will be prevented from entering mass amounts of text until Maythe regular (non-keyboard) dock is still set to ship on April 3, and iPad users can pair their devices with a bluetooth keyboard for text input if they so desire. (The dock connector to VGA adapter is also still on schedule for early April.) ...

Youve probably heard that Apple recently announced the iPad. The absence of Flash Player on the device seems to have awakened the HTML5 vs. Flash debate. Apparently, its the final nail in the coffin for Flash. Either that, or the HTML5 community is overhyping its still nascent markup language update. The arguments run wide, strong, and legitimate on both sides. Yet both sides might also be wrong. Designer/developer Dan Mall is equally adept at web standards and Flash; what matters, he says, isn't technology, but people. ...
