- Mail not playing the new mail sound Many users have been experiencing problems with Mail in which the "New Mail" sound does not seem to be working. Mail will appear and the Dock indicators will display the number of new messages, but the alert sounds will not occur. This has even occurred for users with brand new Macs.
- Tip: Restore Time Machine files to other computers. Time Machine is great technology for backing up one computer, but problems arise when multiple systems are involved. When users use a disk for backing up one computer, the files are only restorable to that one computer.
- Keychain passwords do not work in Firefox Some users have found that their Internet passwords are not available in the keychain, which has caused a little confusion, especially since other applications seem to be storing passwords perfectly fine.
- MobileMe Security: Make sure to quit browser after logging off Like many Webmail offerings, MobileMe requires users to quit the active browser after logging out in order to ensure that subsequent users cannot retrieve their information.
- Command line administrative tools not working Mac OS X comes with a standard set of UNIX command line tools for administering and otherwise running the computer, such as "sudo", "chown", and "chmod", which directly manage user permissions and file accessibility.
- 24 hour time formats in iCal By default, iCal displays time information in 12-hour format, with users required to designate either "AM" or "PM" to denote morning or afternoon.
- Mail unexpectedly quits on launch Every now and then some fault in Apple's Mail application results in it not launching correctly, and sometimes resulting in the application unexpectedly quitting.
- iCal Day/Week/Month buttons grayed out Some users have reported this happening if iCal is left running for extended periods of time, but the problem seems to be relatively persistent for most.
- Securing files in single-account environments In a multi-user environment, users' files are separated to provide a level of privacy and security, and while arguably the best way to run the computer is to conform to the standard of keeping each user account separate, many choose not to do this for a variety of reasons.
- How-To: Migrate Time Machine to a new drive. Users may wish to change their hard drive configurations for convenience in workflow, adding a new drive, or just for the sake of changing things up. In many cases, users may wish to migrate their Time Machine backups to a new, larger drive, but Apple does not provide a good way to do this.
