iPhone apps: Voice Dialer, Units calc, DaysFrom
Voice Dialer (free) is a voice dialing application for the iPhone that allows users to search through their contact book using voice commands. Users press and hold the onscreen button, then speak a name and command such as "call." After a contact has been found, users can choose to call, e-mail or send a text message to the person. If an address is associated with the contact, a map of that locat...

iCal calendars, the '&' character, and clickable URLs
I own a company that has an ampersand in our business name. We have our company name in some of the calendars we publish for all employees to use. When copying the URL to the clipboard (or sending the publish email), iCal does not replace the ampersand, so the resulting links do not work. We've found that replacing the ampersand with the proper hex code (%26) will cause them to work fine in links. Although all characters are not allowed, the ones that are can be replaced using the hex codes found on this page.

The Killers: Virtual Sessions
With producer Stuart Price in London and The Killers in Las Vegas, there was only one way for Day & Age to come of age. Using a remote Logic-based songwriting workflow, band members recorded their ideas in Logic then shared them via email and iDisk with each other and Price, who, a continent away, added drum loops, keyboard lines, and other effects to the songs before sending them back to Vegas.

Apple enables promotional iPhone/iPod apps
Developers should now more easily be able to offer promotional copies of apps for the iPhone and iPod touch, reports say. Apple has enabled a system which, after an app has been approved for sale, allows developers to send free download codes to as many as 50 individuals. The codes can be redeemed within any current version of iTunes, though at present, downloaders must reside within the US....

Inside Safari 3.2's Anti-Phishing Feature
MacWorld is running a piece from MacJournals.com's for-pay publication detailing how the Safari browser's anti-phishing works. The article takes Apple to task for not thinking enough of its users to bother telling them when Safari sends data off to a third party on their behalf. For it seems that Safari uses the same Google-based anti-phishing technology that Firefox has incorporated since version 2.0, but, unlike Mozilla, tells its users nothing about it. "Even when phrased as friendly to Apple as we can manage, the fact remains that after installing Safari 3.2, your computer is by default downloading lots of information from Google and sending information related to sites you visit back to Google — without telling you, without Apple disclosing the methods, and without any privacy statement from Apple."Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Sync multiple iTunes music libraries with one iPhone
I'm a bit of an audiophile, and I like to have all my music in Lossless format. I keep a separate library of Lossless files on an external drive, while my internal drive contains my AAC/MP3 library.I often want to add a Lossless version of a song to my iPhone, for use in my car or with better headphones. So what I did was copy the iTunes Library file from my AAC/MP3 library into my Lossless iTunes Library folder. The AAC/MP3 Library was synced to my iPhone with 'Manually Manage Music' checked.I then opened the Lossless library by holding Option while opening iTunes. I selected my lossless folder. I then deleted all items from the library with iTunes, careful to make sure not to send the files to the trash. I then added all the music in my Lossless library. Now I can add music from both libraries to my iPhone without a hitch. In theory you could do this with as many libraries as you wanted, as long as the original library file was synced to your iPhone.
