A tip for a faster change-app gestures on touchpads
It is now well-known the four finger gesture to change apps. You swipe four fingers, right or left, and a bezel with open apps appears, as with Command-Tab. Then if you swipe with two fingers, you will select a different app, which can be switched to by tapping with four fingers. One thing I saw today is that you don't have to release all your fingers after the four-finger swipe and the two-finger swipe. Simply make the first swipe and only release two fingers; the system will recognize correctly the new gesture, and you save a bit of time.A similar thing happens with the zoom gesture in some applications such as Preview: you can zoom-in and zoom-out without release your fingers. Safari behaves a bit differenlyt: you can zoom-in/out without releasing your fingers, but it will only increase/decrease the page size once (Preview performs a continuous zoom). For larger zooms in Safari, you need to release your fingers. On the other hand, a change between zoom and s...

Apple Quietly Releases Safari 3.2
99BottlesOfBeerInMyF writes "Yesterday Apple quietly slipped out an update to their Safari Web browser to version 3.2. The notable feature is that it finally adds anti-phishing technology, an area where Safari has lagged behind competitors. Aside from that, it provides some security fixes, improved JavaScript performance, and a slightly newer version of Webkit, pulling their Acid3 score up to 77." Apple forums across the Net are reporting frequent crashes in Safari 3.2, some possibly caused by 3rd-party add-ons, others perhaps related to the anti-phishing feature.Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Open Safari bookmark group via keyboard shortcut
One of the most unused features of Safari 3.x is opening, loading, and reloading a group of favorite sites in tabs with a single click of the mouse. Here is my solution, which uses QuicKeys X3 to automate the action with a hot key no matter if Safari is closed, open, or hidden on the desktop. In Safari, prepare a set of bookmarks to open with a single click:Create and name a new folder on your Bookmarks Bar, e.g., FavPlace all your favorite sites in FavControl-click on Fav and choose Open in Tabs to open all the tabs at once, just to test and make sure you've got what you want. Use the Auto-Click column on the Show All Bookmarks page to make the Fav folder open with a single click. (Alternatively, select Add Bookmark For These ## Tabs from the Bookmarks menu when creating the bookmark. This action will automatically duplicate the folder and allow you give it a ...

10.5: How to save YouTube videos from cache
This previous hint explained how to download Flash videos in Safari via the Activity Viewer. This still works in Leopard -- most of the time. However, I had trouble with a large video one day, and found it was stored in the Google video cache. The download would stall and timeout (pausing the Safari download and restarting it caused Safari to restart the download from the beginning -- I suspect it was meant to be streamed only.) The download would work fine in the YouTube Flash player, and it would even cache fully within the web page. YouTube uses Adobe Flash file format *.flv files. Adobe FLV files used by the YouTube flash player are not stored in the Leopard 10.5 Safari cache. Even if they were, they would be stored inside a SQLite database file, which is not very useful. (If you are looking for oth...
