Use MobileMe push email with any email address

You can set up MobileMe to use any email address as a 'push' email on the iPhone. The first thing you need to do is set your non-MobileMe (.Mac) email address for auto-forward to your MobileMe (.Mac) account. When you create the email account, make sure you set it up as Other (not as a .Mac or MobileMe account.) Then select IMAP as the type of account. Enter the name and auto-forwarded email address. (This is the email address that will show as the "From" email, even though you're using your MobileMe account.) For your mail server settings, use your MobileMe settings: Incoming settings: Host Name: mail.mac.com User Name: MobileMe user name Password: MobileMe password Outgoing Settings: Host Name: smtp.mac.com User Name: MobileMe user name Password: MobileMe password Advanced: Use SSL - On Authentication - Password Server Port - 587...

Send .Mac email from a Windows Mobile smartphone

I've always been able to check my .Mac email on my smartphone using the IMAP4 server mail.mac.com, but sending had never worked: smtp.mac.com either rejected all mail recipients when authentication wasn't used, or rejected my login when it was. It turns out that the solution is simple: in the account set-up, you need to ensure that 'Outgoing server requires authentication' is activated, and in 'Outgoing server settings' you need to select 'Use different user name for outgoing server' and re-enter the exact same details as for the incoming server (making sure you don't included the '@mac.com' on your account name). kirkmc adds: I haven't tested this.

Use .Mac and Mail to send from non-.Mac addresses

I have three Macs checking the same email accounts, and as such, love the IMAP system -- never read a message twice, flags stay flagged, junk stay deleted, etc. However, I have been using a dead POP3 account just to send emails from my personal domain. I was getting fed up with this, so I tried to use commas to make more "send from" addresses for the .Mac account in Mail's preferences. For some reason, it only worked for a little while (like minutes). Note that emails have to be sent from a non-.Mac SMTP address -- here in the UK, my mail is sent through my broadband provider just fine, and retains my personal domain address. So here's the hint. I simply set the IMAP account manually in the new account pane, using the mail.mac.com for incoming mail with the usual username and password. Now I can choose what address the email is sent from. This has worked great for a few days now, and so I thought I would share. So far, I have found no side effects or problems; if y...
