Mozy for the Mac Goes Pro
Apple's Time Machine is great for incremental on-site backups, but what happens if there's a theft, fire, or flood? Mac owners facing such a disaster can wave goodbye to the Time Capsule and prepare to start from scratch -- unless there's a remote backup solution in play, of course.

Does Apple Have a Secret Factory?
The Apple blognoscenti, having digested and discarded last week's Steve Jobs heart attack report hoax, have moved on to more pressing matters: rumors that the company's forthcoming new MacBook computers are the products of a revolutionary new manufacturing process.

10 Days With the Sleek New iPod Touch
We've already seen the basic shape and function of the iPod touch -- Apple introduced the first version of the device a year ago, and its overall shape and wide touchscreen design also reflect the popular iPhone. The company could have left the iPod touch alone, at least through the rest of this holiday season, with little risk that any other media player could seriously challenge it.

Schwarzenegger for President?
After watching the first presidential debate, one person on that stage clearly showcased the leadership, focus and bipartisan attitude the U.S. needs to turn itself around. Unfortunately, Jim Lehrer isn't actually running, so it didn't help my own decision process much, and I remain decisively undecided at the moment.

The iPhone Apps Sweepstakes
At first, Jon Trainer had visions of retirement. The software developer had created a game that could be played on the Apple iPhone and iPod touch devices, and sales were through the roof. Users of the iPhone couldn't get enough of the $7.99 "Bullfrog Touch," which pits a ravenous swampland amphibian against a swarm of invading insects. After two weeks, reality set in.

Genius Could Use a Little More Time in Class

iPhone Goes to Washington: Obama Campaign Launches Mobile App
The Barack Obama presidential campaign has tapped Apple's iPhone to help deliver news and information about the candidate. It's also giving Obama's supporters a new way to help swing the campaign to Obama's favor: a Call Friends feature organizes and prioritizes contacts by key battleground states, making it easier to place grassroots political calls.

Cupertino Lifts Gag Order, Frees Its Hostage
Anyone who's going to work at Apple has to come to terms with the fact that the company is generally very secretive about anything having to do with new products. Apple staffers who create the company's latest stuff are used to keeping their lips sealed tight. But then Apple tried to restrict third-party iPhone software developers by requiring them to sign off on a very strict nondisclosure agreement.

Mac Bloggers Bury NDA, Dig Up Dirt on New MacBooks
While Apple's stock price has been rocked by the frenzied selling on Wall Street, and as the United States is buffeted by wave after wave of financial uncertainty, there was one massive ray of hope and joy in the Apple world this week: The sometimes draconian company from Cupertino softened its stance on its nondisclosure agreement with Apple developers.
