LinkedIn CEO gives 32GB iPad minis to all 3,500 employees

Christmas came very early (or very late) for employees of business networking site LinkedIn: CEO Jeff Weiner on Wednesday gave all 3,500 employees of the company their own 32GB iPad mini during the usual biweekly "All Hands" meeting. The company said later the move was a "small gesture" to thank workers for their efforts and accomplishments in gratitude for their contributions. LinkedIn grew 81 percent year-over-year in 2012 and beat Wall Street estimates in the most recent quarter....

Piling on to hedge fund manager David Einhorn's misguided lawsuit over a change Apple is seeking in order to shareholders more say on the issuance of preferred stock, a second investor has brought a similar lawsuit against the company, seeking to stop another Apple proposal from coming to a vote. The new lawsuit covers the same proposal that Einhorn is suing over, and also objects to a proposal from Apple to give shareholders more say on the company's executive compensation....

Adobe takes 10 percent haul from Director 12-built apps

Adobe is now claiming a 10 percent cut of earnings over $20,000 from any iOS app made with Director 12, reports say. The demand can be found in the end-user license agreement for the software. 12 is the first version of Director to support publishing apps directly to iOS, including converting existing titles....

Report dismisses chance of TV-related Apple event in March

Apple isn't planning to hold a TV-related event next month, says The Loop. The original claim was raised earlier today by Jefferies analyst Peter Misek, who said that "channel checks" pointed to a "product event" involving the Apple TV, and possibly rolling out an SDK for a future dedicated TV set. In response, The Loop's Jim Dalrymple simply writes "Nope." Dalrymple is known, however, to have reliable sources for such matters....

Developer FireCore has released updated versions of aTV Flash (black) and Seas0nPass for people hoping to jailbreak Apple TVs running the new v5.2 firmware. While Seas0nPass is simply the required jailbreaking utility, aTV Flash adds new functions, such as web browsing and wider format compatibility. FireCore notes that the Bluetooth keyboard support in v5.2 carries over to Flash's features....

Belkin has quietly started accepting preorders for its Thunderbolt Express Dock. Originally announced with a September 2012 launch date at last year's CES, the Express Dock has undergone numerous set backs and revisions. The final shipping version will allow customers to expand a single Thunderbolt port into eight different ports, including one FireWire 800, one Gigabit Ethernet, three USB 3.0, one 3.5mm audio-in, one 3.5mm audio out, and one Thunderbolt port. While pre-orders are being accepted online for $300, an official shipping date is still yet to be released....

2013 Chevy Sonic, Spark models get Siri support via MyLink

As promised, Chevrolet's 2013 Sonic and Spark cars have been updated to support Siri Eyes Free. The bridge is handled through MyLink, a touchscreen interface built into the vehicles. Apple loses ruling over Brazilian iPhone trademark

Brazil's Institute of Industrial Property has ruled that Apple does not have an exclusive trademark on the term "iPhone" in the country, according to the BBC. Local firm Gradiente Eletronica registered the name in 2000, well before Apple, which only secured the name in 2007. Apple can continue to sell the iPhone in Brazil, but Gradiente now has the option to sue for exclusive rights....

Loewe shares rise on revived Apple buyout rumors

Shares of German TV maker Loewe have risen 43 percent on revived rumors of an Apple buyout, Reuters reports. "Apple supposedly wants to bid 4 euros a share for Loewe," one stock trader is quoted as saying. A Loewe spokesman claims the company is unaware of any acquisition offer, while Apple has refused to comment one way or another on the matter....
